Hello! This blog post will discuss what blood pressure is, why it is important, the normal range, and methods of how to increase the chances of maintaining a healthy blood pressure. I hope that this post is informational and teaches you the basics of blood pressure.

What is Blood Pressure?

Blood pressure is the pressure exerted by your blood against the walls of the arteries as the heart pumps it through your body. It is recorded with two numbers: the first number, systolic pressure (the force when the heart contracts) and the second number being the diastolic pressure (measures the force when the heart relaxes between beats).

Why is Maintaining a Healthy Blood Pressure Important?

Maintaining a healthy blood pressure is vital because it helps protect the heart and arteries from undue stress. High blood pressure can lead to severe health problems, including heart disease, stroke, kidney damage, and vision impairment. Maintaining normal blood pressure levels reduces the risk of these issues and promotes overall cardiovascular well-beingKeeping your blood pressure at a healthy level is vital because it helps protect your heart and arteries from undue stress. High blood pressure can lead to severe health problems, including heart disease, stroke, kidney damage, and vision impairment. Low blood pressure can cause dizziness, fainting, blurred vision, nausea, fatigue, and difficulty concentrating.

What is the typical blood pressure?

The normal blood pressure is cited as 120/80 mmHg. This number can be different for certain people due to various circumstances.

How can I try to maintain a healthy blood pressure?

1. Follow a healthy diet: Prioritize fruits, vegetables, whole grains, lean proteins, and low-fat dairy, while cutting back on salt, saturated fats, and added sugars.

2. Stay active: Aim for at least 150 minutes of moderate exercise or 75 minutes of vigorous exercise per week.

3. Moderate alcohol intake: It is extremely important to limit or cut off all alcohol consumption since it can contribute to having an unhealthy blood pressure reading.

4. Avoid smoking: Smoking raises blood pressure and damages the heart and blood vessels.

5. Manage stress: Practice stress-reducing techniques like deep breathing, meditation, or yoga since increased stress can cause the blood pressure reading to be high.

How often should I check my blood pressure?

It is recommended to check your blood pressure each day and record the averages to show at the next doctor visit. It is important to have your legs uncrossed for at least five minutes before taking your blood pressure and to remain relaxed/calm through it all.
